Ponds
There is an old saying that, “Form follows function.” The need for a pond may be due to a need to supply water for livestock or to have a spot on the property to drop a fishing line. A pond can also be a detention area to provide a place for rain water to go to prevent flooding while it gradually seeps into the ground. Regardless of the utility purpose of a pond, it can add a beautiful water feature to the property. A pond can be both functional and beautiful at the same time.
Some of the decisions about building a pond is whether it needs to have water all the time or whether it is an area that will fill during rain events and drain during the dry times. Issues of watershed flow and the engineering of where the water goes should the pond levels become high are just some of the considerations we will discuss with you as we prepare to excavate an area for a pond on your property.
As with all Thurman Excavating and Hauling projects, there are times when we will need to create a space by clearing what is currently on the property and then properly grading it. There are other times when we may need to add crushed rock, landscape rock, soil and topsoil. We will work with you to determine what is needed for your specific project.
We hope that you will look at some of the pond photos on our website to get ideas that might be good for your pond. And we look forward to meeting with you on site to discuss what you want to do on your property.
If you are building for livestock, fishing or just to look at there are some key elements that need to be considered:
- Decide what function the pond will serve
- Determine if your land and soil are suitable for the pond
- Consider the watershed that will fill your pond
